Is an interest in the alternative genetic? Could a person be predisposed to different aspects of the lifestyle before they are even born? I have asked myself this question several times in the past. What does it mean for one to be predisposed to the lifestyle? Does that automatically mean they will not be happy if they are not in a lifestyle relationship? Does that "doom" them to a life of loneliness or unhappiness if they can't find a partner willing to participate in the lifestyle?
I don't think it means the person is "doomed" to a lonely life merely because they are predisposed to the lifestyle. If one is born with an inclination to the lifestyle one has two choices. Find something in the vanilla world that makes them happy or find a willing partner they can explore the feeling with.
Many people involved in the lifestyle in any way do participate in vanilla activities as well as the alternative. One will be hard pressed to find someone who ONLY participates in alternative sexual activities. I, myself, enjoy some sensual love making every now and again.
Back to the point of this entry. Does interest in alternative lifestyles run in families, is it genetic? In many cases, yes, it actually is. Now, take me for example. My paternal grandparents were swingers. They would host swinging parties in their attic. My cousin (on my father's side) is a submissive, her younger brother is a switch. I am a submissive.
Now, take Master's family. His father was a Dominant. His sister is a submissive and His brother is a switch.
You tell me, is it genetic?
