*DISCLAIMER: THIS IS MY OPINION AS A 24/7 TPE HIGH PROTOCOL SLAVE. YOUR OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS MAY BE DIFFERENT*
There are many minute differences between the life of a sub and the life of a slave. Many people do not realize the differences or the mindsets of both.
The fundamental difference would be where rights are concerned. As a slave, I have no rights, not even the right to breathe. I have surrendered all rights to Master and His wishes. I continue to live simply because it pleases Him. This is how I feel at my very core. I am walking this Earth because my presence here pleases Master. Since I do not have the right, on my own, to life, how can I have other rights? All rights one would have as a free person are surrendered to Master, to His pleasure and His desire (and not just sexual pleasure and desire, but overall pleasure and desire).
My freedom has been surrendered, I have no limits. My limits are those of Master's mind only. If Master were to tell to do something I find repulsive, He knows it would be done, but He does not give the command because it is not His desire.
The binds that keep me here are not physical. I do not have to be tied into a difficult position, I am held there simply by His command. My slavehood is very mental.
Part of my slavehood is control. As a person with no rights, I have no control. Master has guidelines for everything I do, from what I wear to what I spend to what I cook for dinner. I have protocols and rituals for everything. As a slave, those protocols and rituals keep me in line and keep me happy, since I need them. I have no right to happiness, though, I am only allowed happiness because Master believes that a happy slave serves well. And a slave's happiness is completely tied into if her Master is happy.
From my understanding, a submissive has those rights, has her own limits, has a safe word, has the ability to say no. She has control of her own life, her own happiness, her own being. She can be happy if her Dominant is not happy, she can live without a Dominant to control her life.
