How To Clean Your Collars

I think the easiest collar to clean is the steel eternity collar, also called a Turian or ring on steel. This collar is cleaned every time one showers or bathes. Twice a year, though, and after major skin infections or illnesses, it is smart to clean the hinge and the screw. The best way to do this is with rubbing alcohol, Q-tips, tooth picks, and hot water. Just use the Q-tips and tooth picks in the little crevices. If the collar doesn't swing open easily, use a bit of sewing machine oil in the hinge. Be sure to dry it completely and buff gently with a towel before putting it back on.
Any collars made of PVC or vinyl are easy as well. A few squirts of all purpose cleaner and a soft cloth and the collars are good to go. Any hardware can be buffed with a soft towel.
Leather collar cleaning, like leather whips, depends on the hide of the leather. Usually, a leather conditioner and leather cleaner works best. Just be sure to test it out on a small area first to be sure the cleaner doesn't wash away the staining of the leather. If needed, a leather sealer can be applied. Leather cleaner, sealer, and conditioner are all available at Tandy Leather online.
These same cleaning tips can be used to clean cuffs, bondage belts, gags, and other restraints as well.
