50SOG is the new Gor?

Keep dreaming! Yes, there are one or two things they have in common, but that is all.
They both created a sub culture within the counter culture of the alternative community. They both advocate a certain naïveté with the new females, in 50 with Anastasia and on Gor with Earth women brought to the planet through the acquisition flights. And they are both book series. That's about it.
John Norman, the pen name of John Frederick Lange, Jr, began publishing the Gor Saga in 1966 with Tarnsman Of Gor. The novels revolve around a man named Tarl Cabot and his adventures on the counter Earth, a planet named Gor. The main focus was never intended to be the male dominated society where females are subject to a slaver's chain, that was secondary. The books were written by a philosophy PhD with the main themes being human nature in a place with a society opposite of what he noticed on Earth, science fiction, and an exploration in world building. If you read the Gor saga from book 1 through book 33, you will have an entire world built in the pages, a society set up, and even several languages explained. It is not a BDSM textbook series, the ideals of masochism and sadism are looked down upon. The Masters on Gor are strict but do not use sadism for sexual pleasure. Men are allowed to be men and women allowed to be women. Gor started out simply as the musings of a philosopher and turned into a behind closed doors cult phenomenon. Despite the outcropping of Gorean subsects of the counter culture, the Gor Saga is not a BDSM series, and Dr Lange will tell you that to your face if you approach him wearing a Turian collar with a kajira marking. If it was supposed to be used to spark a culture of its own, there would be an authorized, sanctioned keff design, there would be patterns available for the kamisks, silks, and other garments, instructional videos for the slave dances and diagrams for the positions. There are none of these things. Tarl Cabot himself, the main hero of the books, does not even keep a slave until after he changes his name to Bosk.

Now, lets look at 50, shall we? 50 began as fan fiction for the first Twilight book. That means it was written about characters who were in their late teens, yup, your beloved 50 and Anastasia were originally Edward and Bella, and they were 16!!! So, 50SOG was originally kiddie porn! So, sanctamommies, what do you think about the "mommy porn" now? 50 is also not researched at all. Nothing is accurate, subspace is treated like an evil thing, sub drops are ignored and not recognized, in fact it is treated as a female being clingy and she is pushed away.
50 himself is painted as a male with severe psychological issues, and mommy-issues, that are dealt with through BDSM, and his BDSM desires are cured through love. As a dominant, he is controlling. If anyone acted like 50 in general society, he would be called a stalker, and Anastasia would be encouraged to take out a restraining order.
E. L. James has said she needed several glasses of wine to get the courage to write the sex scenes. You have 50, a supposed dominant, who has subs he has broken, one of which has become mentally unstable after what he has done to her, putting Anastasia in danger, whom he, supposedly, released without giving her back the tools she needed to function in society again. Only an irresponsible, uneducated, untrained dominant will break a girl down without any intentions of building her back up.
50 has no training or education, he shows a lack of knowledge in the use of a flogger or whip. He has no aim when he throws the whips and actually sets out in one scene to force Anastasia to use her safe word, all while keeping himself at a distance from her, going so far as to not allow her to touch him!
The very last scene in the third book is one of the most dangerous. Anastasia is pregnant, very pregnant, and he is throwing a flogger on her, wrapping it around her belly!!!!!

In short, the two books are nothing alike at their core. There is nothing good in 50SOG. It is a danger to the lifestyle, a cancer to the community, yes a cancer. I advise people to stay away. Read books besides 50SOG for fiction about healthy power exchange dynamics, consensual dynamics, anything but 50.
